Women’s March: “There Is No Place For a Sexual Abuser on SCOTUS”
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Brett Kavanaugh has reportedly been accused of sexual misconduct in a confidential letter sent by Sen. Dianne Feinstein to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Bob Bland, Women’s March Board Member, released the following statement on the troubling allegations:
“Everything is on the line for American women with this nomination — our lives, our birth control, our healthcare. It’s no surprise that a President famous for abusing women and bragging about it nominated someone so anti-woman, but that Brett Kavanaugh also has a potential pending sexual misconduct case is horrifying. We demand that the US Senate postpone their vote on Brett Kavanaugh until Americans get the truth.”
Emiliana Guereca, Founder of Women’s March Los Angeles (WMLA), President of Women’s March California, added the following:
“If Brett Kavanaugh is a sexual abuser, there is no place for him on the Supreme Court. Women deserve answers, and the US Senate has a responsibility to ensure that Brett Kavanaugh is NOT a sexual abuser before voting on his nomination. As Californians, we applaud Sen. Feinstein for forwarding this important information to the FBI, but that isn’t enough. This is the #MeToo era, and any Senator who thinks they can sweep this under the rug will get a rude awakening come election day. Elected officials will be held accountable. There is no place for sexual misconduct in the workplace.”
Throughout Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, more than 200 women and allies were arrested voicing their distress over the threat he poses to America. Direct actions escalated daily, and most were arrested for disrupting the hearings themselves, and for occupying the offices of Senators who were not doing enough to halt the process.
