Our House Films’ “Kickboxer: Retaliation” Cast Goes Big Time With Roy “Big Country” Nelson
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 15, 2016) – UFC heavyweight fighter Roy Nelson, also known as “Big Country,” has joined the cast of the upcoming film Kickboxer: Retaliation. Scheduled for a 2017 release, this is the second installment in the new trilogy reboot based off the 1989 hit movie Kickboxer, which was a worldwide box-office phenomenon starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
As a trained mixed martial artist and former professional rugby player, Roy Nelson is set to appear in the new film alongside previously announced fighting champions like Mike Tyson, Georges St. Pierre, Fabrício Werdum, Ronaldinho, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. He will portray an inmate in prison who is training the character of Kurt Sloan to fight for his life.
“Roy’s determination during our initial shoot in Las Vegas last month showed us that he obviously has a genuine love for the screen,” said Producer Rob Hickman of Our House Films. “His intriguing performance led our team to expand his role in the film and we believe this could open further doors, ultimately being a crossover opportunity for him. Roy will now be heading to Thailand to work with the rest of the cast.”
Kickboxer: Retaliation is set to continue the storyline from where Kickboxer: Vengeance will leave off, bringing Kurt Sloan forcibly back to Thailand to fend for his life against a new formidable foe named Mongkut––portrayed by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson of Game of Thrones fame.
“I am intensely passionate in bringing these characters to life, as I myself hold two black belts in martial arts,” remarks the film’s Writer and Director Dimitri Logothetis.
Dimitri’s company Acme Rocket Fuel has teamed up with Our House Films as the production houses behind Kickboxer: Retaliation, where he is also serving as Producer alongside Rob Hickman. The Executive Producers are Larry Nealy, Jay Strommen and Steven Swadling.
The first in the trilogy, Kickboxer: Vengeange, stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alain Moussi, Dave Bautista and Gina Carano, and will be hitting theaters and VOD this September. Its anticipated sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation, will follow soon after in 2017!
