BEAGLE FREEDOM PROJECT SPEARHEADED ‘RALLY FOR THE RIGHT TO RESCUE’ EVENT IN SUPPORT OF THE BEAGLE FREEDOM BILL, SB 1884, ON APRIL 25, 2017
SPRINGFIELD, IL (April 25, 2017) – Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), the national non-profit, animal rescue and advocacy organization, was joined by various supporters at the Lincoln Statue on the State Capitol Steps to urge the passing of the Beagle Freedom Bill, also known as SB 1884. If approved, the bill would facilitate a relationship between Illinois labs and rescue organizations so that all laboratory animals would get a chance at living a happy life after the experiments end. The event united political representatives, organization supporters, and dozens of rescued lab beagles, as they rallied for the passing of this very important bill.
The release of laboratory animals in Illinois solely depends on the discretion and volunteer time of the lab workers. Unfortunately, the majority of these people don’t make any attempt at finding homes for the animals who had been used for testing, and as a result, numerous healthy research animals are killed when they are no longer needed by the lab. BFP’s main mission and goal is to put a stop to this horrendous act!
“Since 2010, we have been raising awareness of this crucial issue and are known for the emotionally gripping and heartfelt rescue videos of beagles who had survived animal-based research,” says Research Specialist of BFP, Jeremy Beckham. “With support and unity, BFP will be able to give more laboratory animals a chance at a normal life.”
The organization has successfully negotiated for the release of hundreds of laboratory animals from research facilities in 36 states, but it doesn’t stop there. BFP strongly believes that a nationwide law or regulation needs to immediately be put in place.
“It’s terrible enough that these animals are used for laboratory experimentation, but to deny them a chance of being adopted into a loving, forever home, is completely unnecessary,” explains Jeremy Beckham. “If given the opportunity, I’m confident that many Illinois families would take great pleasure in bringing an animal home, and offer them affection and stability.”
