Beagle Freedom Project Set to Release Beagles Held in Testing Laboratories, Tomorrow, June 24, 2016

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 23, 2016) – Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a national non-profit rescue and advocacy organization is thrilled to announce a victory this week for animal rights––and for love overall. Tomorrow, Friday, June 24th, a handful of beagles will feel freedom for the first time.

Not long ago, these dogs were trapped in a lab testing facility, scheduled to be killed because they were no longer useful to researchers. However, thanks to BFP, they will now smell sunshine and soil, instead of cages and chemicals; they’ll be called by real names instead of the federal identification numbers tattooed inside their ears.

BFP negotiates with laboratories around the world for the release of beagles and other animals, helping to set them free from the grueling life of being tested for cosmetics, products, and scientific curiosities. The release of these dogs is the latest in a series of incredible and heroic rescues that BFP has fought for and won.

“There are nearly 70,000 dogs in U.S. labs right now and 96% of them are beagles, the breed of choice because they are so gentle, docile, and forgiving,” explains Shannon Keith, President and Founder of BFP. “This outdated research practice only survives because it remains hidden from the public.”

A momentous occasion for BFP, their latest release is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 12:00pm PST at: 4428 Lennox Ave. Sherman Oaks, CA 91423. Media is invited to witness and capture the beagles’ first moments of freedom when they lay their paws on grass, as well as interview the families who will be taking these dogs home with them.

Originally founded in 2010, BFP has celebrity support from stars like Sia, Chelsea Handler, Maria Menounos, Whitney Cummings, Nikki Reed, and Ian Somerhalder. To date, the advocacy group has rescued over 600 animals and has passed its signature legislation, The Beagle Freedom Bill, in four states, mandating the release of dogs and cats from research. This year, BFP will launch its scientific grant, gifting $250,000 to researchers who develop alternative experiments that eliminate the need to test on animals.
