Former WNBA standout and Olympic gold medalist Angel McCoughtry is expanding her creative reach into film and television with Apt 6B, a psychological thriller marking her feature directorial debut. Developed under her banner, McCoughtry Entertainment, the project is currently in pre-production and scheduled to begin filming this March, with McCoughtry directing and executive producing as casting gets underway.
Apt 6B follows Lady Blue, a decorated police officer harboring a devastating secret, who wakes to find herself trapped inside a deserted apartment tower. Her only companion is Billy, a guarded teenage boy as lost and frightened as she is. As the pair search for a way out, they realize a violent, unseen presence is stalking them, turning survival into a psychological reckoning.
The film builds on McCoughtry’s momentum as a storyteller. Her short film Bygones, written and directed by McCoughtry, is set to premiere on Prime Video on February 1. The story centers on a young basketball player struggling with confidence and a former coach confronting his past, exploring forgiveness, accountability, and healing. “Storytelling has always been another form of competition for me,” McCoughtry said. “It’s about honesty, impact, and pushing conversations forward.” Alongside her filmmaking work, McCoughtry continues to lead McCoughtry’s Mission, a foundation focused on youth and community empowerment, while McCoughtry Entertainment develops a slate centered on culturally resonant stories that bridge sports, identity, and lived experience.
