Rising AAPI filmmaker Michael Naizu will make his feature directorial debut with Bound For Glory, starring Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before). The indie drama—adapted from Naizu’s acclaimed short film—begins production this September in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.
The project was recently named a finalist in the Gold House AAPI Renaissance Rally with Seed&Spark, highlighting its role in amplifying authentic Asian-American narratives. Described as part love letter and part breakup note to Hollywood, the film follows a struggling artist torn between commercial compromise and telling the story that could redefine his career. Produced by PinkHouse Productions and financed outside the studio system, Bound For Glory blends the soul of Swingers, Good Will Hunting, and Perfect Days.
Parrish praised the film’s “beautiful and compelling story,” while Naizu called the collaboration the realization of a lifelong dream.
