By: EKC PR’s Davida Brenda
Mix some of the world’s most anticipated movies with some of Hollywood’s biggest A-list movie stars and directors and set them against the breathtakingly beautiful backdrop of the French Riviera. What you get is the prestigious and luxe Cannes Film Festival.
If you love movies just as much as we do here at EKC, then you must have been eagerly keeping up-to-date with all the new releases that premiered at this year’s festival. And if not, we’ve narrowed down some of our favorite must-see picks for you to get excited over watching. From Quentin Tarantino’s latest, to costume dramas, to musical biopics, we’ve got you covered on some of Cannes Film Festival best movies!
Take a look:
1. Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood
Esteemed action-packed director Quentin Tarantino returned to Cannes 25 years after he debuted Pulp Fiction. This time, he’s teamed up with three of Hollywood’s biggest stars who need no introduction themselves: Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie.
Unlikely, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood is one of Tarantino’s lighter empathetic movies. Set in the ’60s exploring Hollywood’s hippies, don’t expect as much of an action-packed ensemble as much of Tarantino’s previous films. Never-the-less, this film is a must-see; if anything for the fact of some of the biggest names in Hollywood teaming up together! Quentin, Brad, Leo, and Margot = a recipe for you having no choice BUT to watch it, right?! Not to mention, it’s the last film Luke Perry was ever in before his untimely death earlier this year. It’s a winner in our books!
2. The Lighthouse
Looking for the next great horror film? Director Robert Eggers has got you covered with The Lighthouse. Starring “teen-heartthrob turned actually pretty decent actor” Robert Pattinson, and the great Willem Dafoe, The Lighthouse is a full-on black and white horror. Set on an island populated by just two men, a lighthouse, and the nightmarish goings that take place, this one is sure to scare you. But of course, that’s what makes it so good!
3. Rocketman
British director Dexter Fletcher, who just churned out Oscar winning Bohemian Rhapsody last year, is now back with Rocketman. Just as Bohemian Rhapsody so greatly told the story of rock heavyweights, Queen, so does Rocketman; showcasing the life and rise to fame of legendary singer-songwriter, Elton John. This musical biopic is a must-see for any music lovers!
4. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
French female screenwriter and director Céline Sciamma delivers a beautiful work of cinematic art in Portrait of a Lady on Fire. The French muted costume drama has an ensemble cast of female leads set around the late 1700’s, depicting the tumultuous love affair between two female characters, just as one is set to marry. Erotic, dramatic, and beautiful, if you love period pieces with a twist, this one is definitely for you.
