House of Chimney Cakes, founded by a Hungarian born fashion model turned baker, has opened on Center Street. Szandra Szabó is selling her country’s famous coiled chimney-looking pastries or Kürtöskalács. The crunchy cylinder shaped desserts are found in Hungary and Romania.
The pastries have a hollow center, making them look like a chimney. (I tried a version dusted with cinnamon and it tasted like a crunchy churro). You can order the pastry rolled in a topping such as sprinkles or get it filled with soft serve vanilla or chocolate ice cream using an organic base from Strauss Farm. The shop also sells a vegan option with Dole Whip Pineapple soft serve. The unfilled cinnamon sugar pastry is $5.95; a coiled pastry filled with ice cream is $6.50. Toppings are extra. Address: 173 Center Street Promenade.
