Our House Films’ Kickboxer: Retaliation Keeps Getting Bigger, Literally, as Brian Shaw, “World’s Strongest Man,” Joins the Cast
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 8, 2016) – Three-time “World’s Strongest Man” champion Brian Shaw announced via Instagram on Sunday that he has joined the cast of Kickboxer: Retaliation.
This latest impressive casting in the Kickboxer franchise solidifies its prowess as a star-studded action event, considering the recent cast announcements of soccer sensation Ronaldinho, legendary boxer Mike Tyson, and UFC stars Paige VanZant & Fabricio Werdum. Not to mention the film’s villain — and Brian Shaw’s biggest competition at “World’s Strongest Man” — Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Altogether, Kickboxer: Retaliation will feature 14+ renowned world champion athletes.
Penned as a trilogy, Kickboxer: Retaliation is the sequel to Kickboxer: Vengeance, the latter starring newcomer Alain Moussi, Gina Carano, and superstars Dave Bautista and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Both films are written by Dimitri Logothetis, who also is directing the second installment.
Upping the storyline where Kickboxer: Vengeance will leave off, the sequel brings Kurt Sloan (Moussi) back to Thailand to fight against a formidable foe, portrayed by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson — who also plays “the Mountain” on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
“When we added Hafþór to our cast, we knew it would be difficult for our hero to learn how to defeat a man of such gargantuan size,” admits Rob Hickman, producer of Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation. “But what better way for our hero to learn than from another mountain of a man — Brian Shaw.”
Larry Nealy and Steve Swadling are executive producing Kickboxer: Retaliation, while Our House Films and Acme Rocket Fuel will serve as the production companies. Principle photography recently wrapped in Nevada, allowing filming to commence in Thailand this July.
“We can’t wait for our audience to see the action we’ve created with these stars, and Shaw’s scenes are going to be beyond memorable,” adds Jay Strommen, chairman of Our House Films. “We are so excited about working with our talented cast, and are pleased that their social influence works nicely in line with the expanding distribution model Our House Films is currently pursuing.”
Kickboxer: Vengeance will punch into theaters this fall, with Kickboxer: Retaliation arriving soon after in 2017!
