Objectives
Angus Benfield, actor, filmmaker, producer, and founder of LAMA Entertainment, and Ruth Benfield, composer, producer, music supervisor, and co-founder of LAMA Entertainment, sought to build visibility for multiple film and music projects while strengthening both the company’s industry profile and their individual professional brands. Their goals included generating awareness for The Keeper, a mission-driven drama addressing veteran suicide and PTSD; promoting The Christmas Letter, a holiday comedy featuring Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid; increasing industry attention for the thriller The Weight of Darkness; and expanding recognition for Ruth’s work as a composer and producer.
Strategy
EKC PR developed a comprehensive entertainment publicity campaign encompassing media relations, television booking, entertainment trade outreach, review placement, podcast appearances, profile development, and soundtrack promotion. Rather than applying a single publicity approach, EKC created distinct media strategies tailored to each project’s audience, message, and market opportunity.
For The Keeper, the campaign emphasized veteran mental health awareness, PTSD education, and the film’s social impact mission. For The Christmas Letter, publicity focused on the film’s recognizable cast, holiday appeal, and the reunion of beloved stars from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. For The Weight of Darkness, EKC highlighted the film’s growing cast roster and industry momentum. In parallel, EKC secured opportunities that elevated both Angus and Ruth individually as respected creative professionals within the entertainment industry.
Results
EKC PR secured Los Angeles television coverage and secured national and major-market television for The Keeper, including appearances on ABC News Live with Linsey Davis, KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News, and KCAL/CBS News Los Angeles.
The film also received critical and interview coverage through Film Threat, which awarded The Keeper an 8/10 rating, as well as additional visibility through Indy Reviews, British Cinematographer, Matt’s Movie Reviews, The MAKE IT Podcast, Bar Crawl Radio, and ThisFunktional.
For The Weight of Darkness, EKC secured major entertainment trade coverage in Deadline and Collider, generating industry exposure for the project and highlighting Angus Benfield alongside cast members including Jaime King, Doug Jones, Corbin Bernsen, and Angus Macfadyen.
For The Christmas Letter, EKC secured an exclusive feature in People Magazine focused on the reunion of Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid, bringing national attention to the holiday comedy and its cast.
EKC also supported publicity efforts surrounding Ruth Benfield’s soundtrack release, Christmas in New York, including media coverage connected to the film through Vents Magazine.
In addition, EKC secured individual profile coverage for both Angus and Ruth through Authority Magazine, positioning Angus as an independent filmmaker and producer while highlighting Ruth’s work as a composer, producer, and creative leader. The campaign further supported visibility for The Keeper as the film earned recognition from the Los Angeles Film Awards.
Impact
Through a coordinated, multi-project entertainment publicity campaign, EKC PR helped elevate LAMA Entertainment’s visibility across television, entertainment trades, consumer media, podcasts, reviews, and industry publications. The campaign generated awareness for multiple productions simultaneously while strengthening the personal brands of Angus and Ruth Benfield as filmmakers, producers, and creative entrepreneurs. By securing placements across leading media outlets and entertainment publications, EKC helped position LAMA Entertainment as a growing force within independent film and entertainment while supporting meaningful conversations around mental health, storytelling, and creative impact.
